IPC Joins IFPA to Mark the Tenth Anniversary of the World Health Assembly Resolution on Psoriasis

The International Psoriasis Council (IPC) is joining forces with the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations (IFPA) to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the World Health Assembly Resolution on Psoriasis. This joint effort aims to unite stakeholders from various sectors to evaluate progress in psoriasis care and tackle ongoing challenges. Highlighting the importance of continuous research, the development of new treatments, and the creation of inclusive policies, this partnership is poised to make significant strides in the field.

In the coming year, the IPC and IFPA have planned a series of initiatives to advance the psoriasis agenda globally. Among these is a side event at the 77th World Health Assembly, co-hosted with the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS), titled “10 Years: A Decade of Global Action Since the World Health Assembly Resolution on Psoriasis – What’s Next?” This event aims to integrate psoriatic disease within the broader non-communicable diseases (NCDs) framework, informing future priorities and policy recommendations for the World Health Organization (WHO).

Efforts are underway to compile new research underscoring the link between psoriatic disease and other NCDs, like cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. This is intended to guide policymakers and improve global psoriasis care. A comprehensive review is also being conducted to assess the progress since the resolution and identify areas needing more attention. Part of this review involves amplifying the voices of those with psoriasis through interviews and testimonials, which will be shared across various media.

Strategic meetings and educational programs with WHO Member States are scheduled for World Psoriasis Day 2024 to rally support. A pioneering project is also developing an online psoriasis course for the OpenWHO platform. These initiatives underscore a unified commitment to enhancing psoriasis care worldwide, emphasizing the need for research, innovative treatments, and inclusive health policies. This collaborative effort promises to drive significant advancements in combating psoriasis. Updates on the progress of this collaboration will be provided as they become available.
