PSSI: Psoriasis Scalp Severity Index

The Psoriasis Scalp Severity Index (PSSI) is a physician-administered tool specifically designed to assess the severity of scalp psoriasis, which often significantly impacts patients’ quality of life. This index is essential for evaluating treatment effectiveness and guiding clinical decisions in managing scalp psoriasis.

The PSSI rates psoriasis severity on the scalp based on three parameters: erythema (redness), scaling, and thickness. Each parameter is assessed individually, and the scores are combined to provide an overall severity rating. This assessment is critical in tailoring treatments for patients with varying degrees of scalp involvement.

Assessment of Extent of Scalp Psoriasis

PSSI = Sum of scores for erythema, induration, and desquamation x involved area (range 0-72)
