Dr Su Lwin is a Senior Research Fellow at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, King’s College London and an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK. Trained in stem cell and gene therapy, she led the world’s first fibroblast gene therapy clinical trial for epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and pioneered the first spray-on gene therapy for the disease. Her current research applies cell-based therapeutics to psoriasis, aiming to achieve long-term disease modification, particularly in severe, biologic-refractory cases. Through this cross-disciplinary approach, she leads ART-EB (Advancing Repurposed Therapeutics for Epidermolysis Bullosa), the world’s first and largest drug repurposing platform for all types of EB, thereby bridging rare and common skin diseases.

Dr Lwin serves as Guest Editor for the Journal of Investigative Dermatology Global Health Special Issue, mentors early-career researchers, and co-founded two major initiatives: A Day @ St John’s, a leading national dermatology course, and the Burma Skincare Initiative, a charity advancing equitable skin health in Myanmar. She also co-created and co-chaired the International Psoriasis Council’s first Masterclass for dermatologists and GPs in Asia — the IPC’s first initiative to jointly engage both groups in psoriasis education.
