Professor Errol Prens obtained his MD degree in 1981 at the University of Groningen and became a certified Dermatologist in 1985 after training in the Department of Dermatology at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He joined the department of Immunology of the Erasmus MC for research on skin inflammation, resulting in his thesis ‘Immunopathophysiology of psoriasis; studies on accessory cells, cytokines and their receptors’, Erasmus University Rotterdam (1992). Certification as an Immunologist followed in 1993 (SMWBO). He combined his position as a postdoctoral fellow and leader of the Experimental Immunodermatology group in the department of Immunology of the Erasmus MC with his clinical tasks as an all-around dermatologist. In 2005, he was appointed Professor of Experimental Immunodermatology. He is an author of over 300 peer-reviewed scientific papers, is on the editorial board and a reviewer for international dermatology journals, and has been a reviewer for several international research councils. He is a ‘pro bono’ medical advisor for the Netherlands Psoriasis and Hidradenitis Suppurativa patient organization, Councilor of the International Psoriasis Council (IPC), and a board member of the European Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation. Professor Prens is the co-founder and former president of the Dutch Society for Experimental Dermatology, and a member of the scientific committee of the international congress Psoriasis: From Gene to Clinic held in London, United Kingdom, every three years.
