Dr. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak is an immunologist and cell biologist, a full professor at the University of Gdańsk in Poland, and leads the Experimental and Translational Immunology Group laboratory of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Gdańsk, and Medical University of Gdańsk.

She has a strong interest in both epidermal barrier formation and skin immunity, as well as in extracellular vesicles as mediators of cellular communication. Together with her interdisciplinary team, she investigates atopic dermatitis and, broadly, allergic inflammation, as well as basic immunological mechanisms of T cell and dendritic cell biology, including a more translational angle.

She is a National Science Centre-EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND fellow and a recipient of prestigious grants, including EU-cofunded. She was distinguished with the Young Investigator Award by the British Society for Investigative Dermatology in 2017. Danuta served as a co-chair of the European Epithelial Barrier Research Network (E2BRN) and is involved in the EU COST action Netskinmodels, a skin-focused European research consortia. She is also an International Eczema Council (IEC) Associate.

Dr. Gutowska-Owsiak graduated with an MD from the Medical University of Gdańsk and then moved into an experimental path. She undertook a PhD at the University of Liverpool in England. In 2009, she joined the MRC Human Immunology Unit at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford, for a postdoctoral training. In 2019, she was promoted to associate professor and awarded the title of full professor in February 2026.
