Dr. Caroline Mann is an assistant professor at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and principal investigator in clinical studies focusing on inflammatory skin diseases.

Her work combines clinical and translational research with a particular focus on eczema and related inflammatory dermatoses. Her research interests span translational medicine, biomarker-driven approaches, and interventional clinical studies to improve patient-centered care and advance therapeutic strategies in dermatology. A central focus of her work is the relationship between inflammatory skin disease and sleep, exploring how sleep disturbances influence disease burden, quality of life, and long-term outcomes.

In addition to her academic and clinical activities, Dr. Mann serves as chair of the Rhineland-Palatinate Sleep Society (Rheinland-Pfälzische Schlafgesellschaft), where she promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in sleep medicine and research. Her work aims to bridge dermatology, immunology, and sleep science to translate research findings into meaningful improvements in clinical practice.

Dr. Mann was selected for an International Eczema Council (IEC) Clinical Fellowship, during which she was mentored by IPC Board Member Amy Paller at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, United States, from October 2022 to September 2023. She is now an IEC Associate.

New Take Tens on Psoriatic Arthritis

IPC Councilor Anna Lopez Ferrer, MD, PhD, reviews PURE-4, a four-item tool that helps dermatologists screen psoriasis patients for psoriatic arthritis (PsA) risk. She traces its evolution across three studies (2018–2026) into a validated predictor of early PsA.

IPC Councilor André Lucas Ribeiro, MD, reframes PsA as a slow transition from psoriasis, not a sudden event, opening the door to disease interception. He outlines the steps needed to get there, from harmonizing definitions to reducing inflammatory burden.
