Dr. Tshepang Mabala is a registrar in Dermatology at Groote Schuur Academic Hospital and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Western Cape, South Africa. She works in both adult and pediatric outpatient departments, where she manages a wide range of dermatological conditions. Her current research for her Master of Medicine (Dermatology) degree at the University of Cape Town focuses on the incidence and prevalence of psoriatic arthritis in the psoriasis population. She has developed a keen interest in psoriasis comorbidities, treatment, and the psychosocial challenges faced by patients in resource-limited countries. Through her research, a combined Dermatology–Rheumatology clinic was established to review patients with early features of psoriatic arthritis, enabling early detection and prompt treatment via a multidisciplinary team approach. She is a winner of the 2025 Dermatology Society of South Africa Research Award. Dr. Mabala actively participates in the South African Psoriasis Association’s patient support group, serving as a support doctor and an avid advocate for patients. She is currently establishing a psoriasis registry for patients attending the outpatient clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital, with the aim of laying the foundation for a national psoriasis registry in South Africa.

Dr. Mabala will study with IPC Councilor Alice Gottlieb at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, United States.
