Professor Ann Van Hecke co-leads the University Center for Nursing and Midwifery (UCVV), a research unit at Ghent University. She has published more than 250 publications in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals. Her main research focus is on the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrating specialized nurses, advanced practice nurses, and nurse-led clinics in different healthcare settings. She also performed research in (psychosocial) nursing care in oncology, patient participation and patient experts by experience in healthcare, and self-management support and adherence in patients with chronic conditions. In recent years, Professor Van Hecke has been intensively involved in reforming nursing in Belgium and developing the legal framework for advanced practice nurses. She is a Board Member of the Belgian Associations for APN and the European Academy of Nursing Science.
